TCS New York City Marathon race week is one of the best weeks in NYC, and your kids can get the festivities off to a great start! Bring the young athletes in the family to the inaugural Rising NYRR Kids Kickoff on Sunday, October 29, at Central Park, home of the iconic finish line. Kids of all ages and abilities are welcome to join this FREE and fun race and discover the joy of running. The course distance varies from short dashes to 1.5-miles. Our event is organized in three stages, each based on age, physical activity, and competitiveness. Read the Stages section below to find the right Stage for your child.

Registration for this event is FREE and open to runners of all abilities ages 2 to 18. Every participant will receive a New Balance lunchbox.

Stage 3: Register on this page only for participants ages 12 to 18 for a timed and competitive 1.5-mile race.
Stage 2: Visit the Stage 2 page to register participants ages 8 to 18 for an untimed non-competitive 1.5-mile run.
Stage 1: Visit the Stage 1 page to register participants ages 2 to 11 that are new to running and physical activity, for non-competitive short dashes.

Why Run with Rising New York Road Runners?

Rising New York Road Runners events are designed to be fun, inclusive, and an opportunity for our youth to see what they are capable of. Registration for all Rising New York Road Runners events is completely free and made possible by the generosity of our community.

The chart below is a guide to the stages available. Use the chart to determine the appropriate stage for your child. If you need help determining your child's stage, contact our Runner Services team.

3	12 to 18	Competitive Timed longer distances Fitness activities	Your child is comfortable running a longer distance and racing other kids in a competitive setting.

Notes on Registration

This race will operate under our 2023 Safety Procedures at NYRR Races guidelines.
We’ve updated our website to increase inclusivity and representation in our races. Runners can register as girl, boy, or non-binary. Visit our FAQ page for more information on how to update your profile.

Race Number Pickup

Numbers (which include timing tags) may be picked up at the NYRR RUNCENTER featuring the New Balance Run Hub at 320 West 57th Street (between Eighth and Ninth avenues) on the following dates: 

Monday, October 23, 9:00 a.m.–7:30 p.m.
Tuesday, October 24, 9:00 a.m.–7:30 p.m.
Wednesday, October 25, 9:00 a.m.–7:30 p.m.
Thursday, October 26, 9:00 a.m.–7:30 p.m.
Friday, October 27, 9:00 a.m.–7:30 p.m.
Saturday, October 28, 9:30 a.m.–5:00 p.m.

Parents and guardians of runners are encouraged to pick up race numbers at the NYRR RUNCENTER to avoid race-day lines.

On race day, number pickup will be available from 7:00 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. for Stage 3 at Race-Day Central, located at the Naumburg Bandshell in Central Park.

Souvenirs will only be distributed on race day.

Schedule of Events

Participants should report to the corrals 10 minutes before the start of their run. Staff will walk participants to the start line.

Participants will start on the 72nd Street Transverse and head west to West Drive. They will then make a left to go south on West Drive and run the lower loop of Central Park until reaching the 72nd Street Transverse and East Drive, making a left onto the 72nd Street Transverse toward the finish line.

Bag Check

Bag check will be available from 7:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. at Race-Day Central, located at the Naumburg Bandshell in Central Park.  

Planning to check a bag on race morning? While we will continue to have clear plastic bags available at number pickup, we encourage you to use your own clear reusable plastic bag, no larger than 17" wide x 20" high x 7" deep, with the tag affixed.

NYRR is not responsible for lost, damaged, or stolen bags or items from bags checked at NYRR bag check.

Results

After the conclusion of the event, official results will be posted on results.nyrr.org.

Awards

Awards will be given to the overall 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place girl, boy, and non-binary Rising New York Road Runners at the Rising NYRR Kids Kickoff - Stage 3. Awards will only be distributed on event day at the race finish.

Cancellation Policy

If NYRR cancels an offering on the direction of local, city, or state authorities, participants will be informed as soon as possible, including communication of participant resolution options. Events will not be rescheduled.
