NYRR's Reimagined Vision and Mission
New York Road Runners is a mission-driven nonprofit that has served communities across New York City for more than 60 years.
To more clearly communicate our impact and why we do what we do, we’ve reimagined our vision and mission to reflect the organization’s growth and change over the last decade. Year-round, guided by our new vision and mission, NYRR serves New Yorkers of all ages, genders, abilities, and backgrounds through our 60 adult and free youth races, programs, and events, including the TCS New York City Marathon.
We’re thrilled to share these updates today as part of our celebration of Global Running Day, a worldwide celebration of running that encourages everyone to get moving.
Our Vision
To build healthier lives and stronger communities through the transformative power of running.
Our Mission
As a New York City–based nonprofit, we’re dedicated to transforming the health and well-being of our communities through inclusive and accessible running experiences, empowering all to achieve their potential.
“Since 1958, we have grown from a local running club to a globally recognized, mission-driven nonprofit that provides inclusive and accessible running experiences every day. We are thrilled to see so many people running in today’s world post-pandemic, and are here to help them keep up that beautiful habit with our best-in-class events and digital innovations. We are also working diligently to get more people running—and more often—by reaching underserved communities and inspiring action through our storytelling," says NYRR CEO Rob Simmelkjaer.
Since the pandemic, we've seen more people running than ever before, thanks to running's well-documented mental and physical health benefits. The evidence is overwhelming that running can help prevent chronic diseases, lower the risk of depression, reduce stress, improve sleep, and boost brainpower.
We're excited about the part we play in transforming lives through running every day!
