Hispanic Heritage Month, also known as Latinx Heritage Month, celebrates the contributions of Hispanic/Latinx Americans to events in U.S. history and contemporary society.

From September 15 through October 15, we'll share stories from our Hispanic/Latinx running community. Check out content from our blog and our Set the Pace podcast at the links below. We'll add more inspiring stories and resources throughout the month.

The teacher and Rising New York Road Runners program lead discovered running in childhood and for the past 10 years has been sharing the gift of movement with her students at PS 159X in the Bronx.

This Two-Time Six Star Finisher Is Proud to Be "Korican"


Mike Alcaide is a certified running coach and two-time Abbott World Marathon Majors Six Star finisher who is known in the running community as Mike the Korican, or MTK.

Keila Merino, a member of NYRR Contributors Circle, is a runner, teacher, and NYRR Pace Team member who immigrated from Mexico with her family in childhood. She teaches and coaches children who are also immigrants.

Moving Forward Together in the Bronx


Elías Cruz is a Rising New York Road Runners program lead and coach at MS 244 The New School for Leadership and Journalism in the Bronx, near where he grew up. “As a young man, my track team was always a home away from home,” said Elías. “It gave me one of the fondest memories of my youth. We went from being on a team to having lifelong friendships.”
