How do I claim my guaranteed, non-complimentary entry to the 2022 United Airlines NYC Half?

Runners who registered for Run to Gain Guaranteed Entry or Run to Fundraise for NYRR Team for Kids and completed the full 13.1-mile distance in a single run activity will be able to claim their 2022 United Airlines NYC Half guaranteed, non-complimentary entry in late fall 2021.

What will my finisher package include?

All Run to Gain Guaranteed Entry and Run to Fundraise for NYRR Team for Kids finishers will also receive a tote bag sponsored by Hospital for Special Surgery (HSS). Runners who registered for either of these tiers who are based in the United States will have a packet of Biofreeze included in their finisher package as well. Both of these partner products will be included while supplies last.

When will my finisher package arrive?

Finisher packages for Run to Gain Guaranteed Entry, Run to Fundraise for NYRR Team for Kids, and Run for the Medal finishers will be shipped in late April to the address you provided in your NYRR profile. Please check your NYRR profile to ensure your mailing address is up to date by Thursday April 8. Your finisher package should arrive by end of May for US-based runners and by mid-June for international runners. How do I properly complete my race on Strava?

You must take the following steps in Strava for your virtual race to be counted:

  • Set your activity privacy to "Everyone"
  • Make sure your activity sport is set to "Run" and update your activity type to "Race"
  • Before you finish your race, confirm that you ran slightly over the race distance. Running less than the 13.1-mile distance (or sometimes, even the exact distance) will not count as the completion of your virtual half marathon and trigger the issue of your digital badge by Strava.
  • Make sure the activity is a GPS upload. Manual uploads, treadmill runs, and activities where friends have "tagged" you do not count.

Is the race time frame based on my own local time or the New York City time zone?

You should follow your own local time zone for the race time frame. You can start your race any time between Saturday, March 20 at 12:00 a.m. and Sunday, March 28 at 11:59 p.m. You must upload your run to Strava by 11:59 p.m. (in your time zone) on Wednesday, March 31.

Where can I find my race bib?

Your personalized race bib can be found in your confirmation mail (the second email you would have received from NYRR after registering). You can also download a printable race bib.

Where can I find my Strava subscription trial and Coaching Lab access?

Your Strava subscription trial and Coaching Lab access can be found in your confirmation mail (the second email you would have received from NYRR after registering). If you cannot find this email, please contact us at help@nyrr.org.

I am already registered for Run for the Love of Running. How can I upgrade to Run for the Medal?

If you are already signed up for the Run for the Love of Running tier, you can just re-register for the virtual half marathon at the Run for the Medal tier. Once you re-register, you will get all the perks of this tier – including a finisher medal upon race completion. There is no need to cancel your Run for the Love of Running registration.

Can I complete my virtual half marathon in multiple runs that add up to 13.1 miles?

No. For all tiers you must complete the full 13.1-mile distance in a single run activity during one calendar day and upload the activity to Strava.

For the Run for Guaranteed Entry or Run to Fundraise for NYRR Team for Kids tier, you must complete the full 13.1-mile distance in a single run activity in under 3 hours and 45 minutes (roughly 17:00-per-mile pace) and upload the activity to Strava to guarantee your non-complimentary entry to the 2022 United Airlines NYC Half. There is no time limit for the Run for the Medal or Run for the Love of Running tier.

How can I record my run on Strava? Do I need to use two separate devices?

In order to properly complete your virtual half-marathon, you will need a 13.1-mile GPS activity uploaded to your Strava account. Run with any Strava-compatible tracking device such as a GPS watch and sync your device to Strava, or record your run directly on your phone using the Strava app.

You will only need to upload your run to your Strava profile from one device. However, some runners prefer to run with two devices (such as their GPS watch plus the Strava app as a backup).

What should I do if my race distance is showing on Strava as slightly less than the half marathon distance of 13.1 miles?

Please try manually updating your activity distance on Strava by following the below instructions:

  • Go to your activity page on the Strava website (this feature is currently not accessible in the mobile app).
  • Click on the link directly below your current distance listed on the Activity Details page, where it says "Distance(?)" in small letters.
  • From the pop-up, click "Correct Distance."
  • When the status changes from "Calculating" to "Updated," refresh the page.

If you would like to revert the change, you can click the same link and click "Revert Distance". If this still isn’t properly updating your distance, please contact Strava at support@strava.zendesk.com.

How do I know if my virtual half-marathon has been uploaded, saved correctly, and will count in the results?

Your race has been properly counted if you receive the digital badge in your Strava trophy case and your name is listed on the challenge leaderboard.
