Thousands of Runners to Celebrate the New Year at the 37th Annual NYRR Midnight Run in Central Park at the Stroke of Midnight December 31
WHAT: NYRR Midnight Run
Fireworks will light up the sky at the stroke of midnight to start off the 37th annual NYRR Midnight Run, a four-mile race held each year in the iconic Central Park. An expected 5,000 runners will gather in glittery running attire, eager to celebrate the New Year in the most fit and fun way possible! Led by a talented professional athlete field, these runners will take their first steps into 2016 together as they set out to accomplish their first fitness goal of the year. All participants will receive glow in the dark shoelaces and will be able to toast with family and friends at the sparkling cider fluid station halfway into the four-mile course.
The event is an exciting way to celebrate the New Year for non-runners, too! The pre- and post-race festival at the Central Park Bandshell features a high-energy party with various DJ’s, musicians, dancers, face painting, and more! For the second year, resolution bibs will be distributed pre-race for runners who want to write what they are running for then pin it to their race clothing.
The pre- and post-race festival is free and open to the public from 10:00 p.m. to 1:00 a.m. Spectators and fans are encouraged and welcome to view the fireworks show at the start of the race just south of the 72nd Street Transverse. For more information about this unique and New York-centric way to celebrate the holiday, visit the event home page. Registration is open now.
