New York Road Runners Round-Up: December News and Events

NYRR will be hosting events for all ages and abilities this month. Many events are festive and fun for the whole family, with kids’ races, pre- and post-race entertainment, and more. Jingle Bell Jog & Reindeer Run (near capacity)

Runners of all ages and abilities, including thousands of children, will don antler headbands and jingle bells on their sneakers at this four-mile benefit race. Proceeds benefit NYRR's free youth running programs, events, and resources that serve more than 200,000 students locally and nationally, including more than 120,000 in New York City’s five boroughs.

The 2015 United Airlines NYC Half runner application will close on Wednesday, December 3, 2014. The applicant drawing will be held on Tuesday, December 9, 2014.

The 13.1-mile race, which will be the opening event of the 2015 NYRR Five-Borough Series, will take place on Sunday, March 15, 2015, with United Airlines as the new title sponsor. For more information about the 2015 United Airlines NYC Half visit the official race page.

NYRR Ted Corbitt 15K (near capacity)

Thousands of runners will celebrate the late Ted Corbitt, the co-founder and first president of NYRR, and the first African American to represent the United States in the Olympic Marathon. Corbitt was inducted into the 2013 NYRR Hall of Fame, and in July of 2014, 228th Street in Harlem—near where Corbitt lived for much of his life—was renamed Ted Corbitt Way.

NYRR Midnight Run

Thousands of New Yorkers and runners from around the country will start the New Year off on the right foot with this four-mile run that begins at the stroke of midnight, along with a 15-minute fireworks display. Runners can toast to a healthy New Year with a sparkling cider fluid station at the halfway point, and runners and non-runners alike are welcome to join the 10:00 p.m. free dance party.
