Iliass Aouani is a five-time national champion and the Italian record-holder in the marathon after having run a 2:07:16 at the Barcelona Marathon earlier this year. He surpassed Eyob Faniel’s mark by three seconds; Faniel was the third-place finisher at the 2021 TCS New York City Marathon.

Aouani has won national titles in the 10,000 meters, 10K road race, half marathon, and cross country.

The Milan native holds a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering and a masters degree in structural engineering from Syracuse University in upstate New York, where he was a two-time ACC champion and first-team All-ACC member. He started running for fun growing up, and became more competitive once he began receiving recruitment messages from NCAA schools on Facebook. Since graduation, he has returned to train in Italy.
