New York Road Runners Showcases its Historical Impact in the Bronx at New Balance Bronx 10 Mile with 12,000+ Runners

Comunicados de prensa

New York, September 22, 2024 — New York Road Runners (NYRR) welcomed more than 12,000 runners to the New Balance Bronx 10 Mile on Sunday as the nonprofit celebrated its history in the borough and promoted the transformative power of running.

The race is part of the New York Road Runners Five-Borough Series and has taken place since 2012, evolving from what used to be the Bronx Half Marathon, first held in 1995. New Balance, New York Road Runners’ Official Athletic Footwear and Apparel Partner, has been the event title sponsor since 2016. The race took runners on a tour of the Bronx past iconic landmarks, such as Grand Concourse, Yankee Stadium, and Joseph Yancey Track.

New York Road Runners was founded in 1958 at Macombs Dam Park in the Bronx and has grown into a nonprofit that produces 60 adult and youth races annually, in addition to free and accessible programming for community members of all ages.

Several youth and community programs were on display at the event, including over 600 youth ages 2-18 who participated in the Boogie Down Kids Run. The free dashes and races featured a medal for the first time.

Tegla Loroupe, the 1994 and 1995 New York City Marathon champion and United Nations Ambassador, walked alongside NYRR Striders, a free program for older adults, in a one-mile walk.

Throughout the year New York Road Runners engages with approximately 250 run clubs across the five boroughs, and members from several local Bronx groups, including Boogie Down Bronx, Bronx Burners, and BX Endurance Runners, participated in the New Balance Bronx 10 Mile.
