Pre-Race


Race Number Pickup

 

On race day, number pickup will be available from 6:30 a.m. to 8:00 a.m. at Race-Day Central (located at Staten Island St. George Ferry Terminal – Bus Depot/Platform A). If you pick up your bib on race day, your premium will be available after the race.

Show your race confirmation email or the QR code from your NYRR account to pick up your race materials. Proxy bib pickup is available for this race, so a friend or family member can pick up your race materials. The person will need the QR code for your NYRR account, along with a form of photo identification that corresponds to your NYRR account.

Miles 1 and 2: Start on Bay Street, below Slosson Terrace, and continue south on Bay Street.

Miles 3 and 4: Turn from Bay Street onto School Road, then follow Lily Pond Avenue to Father Capodanno Boulevard.

Miles 5–8: Follow Father Capodanno Boulevard, making a U-turn on Mile 7 near the intersection of Father Capodanno Boulevard and Midland Avenue.

Mile 9: Turn right onto McClean Avenue; approaching Fort Wadsworth, McClean Avenue becomes Battery Road. Turn left into Fort Wadsworth via New York Avenue, then turn left onto Marshall Road. The Mile 9 marker is located near the right turn from Marshall Road onto Drum Avenue.

Mile 10: Turn right from Drum Avenue onto New York Avenue, then turn left exit Fort Wadsworth onto Battery Road. Turn left from Battery Road onto Hudson Road, passing under the Verrazzano–Narrows Bridge before continuing on Hudson Road. Turn left onto Mont Sec Avenue and reach the Mile 10 marker soon after.

Mile 11: Turn right from Mont Sec Avenue onto New York Avenue; leaving Fort Wadsworth, New York Avenue becomes Bay Street. Turn right onto Hylan Boulevard, then left onto Edgewater Street before reaching the Mile 11 mark.

Mile 12 and 13: Follow Edgewater Street, turning right onto Front Street. Bear right as Front Street turns onto Murray Hulbert Avenue, then turn left onto Hannah Street. Turn right from Hannah Street onto Bay Street, and continue on Bay Street to the finish near the U.S. Postal Service building.

Time Limit: In the interest of safety, and to allow Staten Island streets to reopen as scheduled, any participant who is unable to maintain a 13:45-per-mile pace throughout the race (based on the time when the last runner crosses the start line) will have the opportunity to board a sweep bus, starting at approximately mile 6 for transport to the finish.

These participants may choose instead to continue running on the sidewalks, but they should be aware that fluid stations and other course amenities may not be available. These runners may not be recorded as official finishers; they can email results@nyrr.org to request 9+1 TCS New York City Marathon qualifying credit for the race. Thank you for your cooperation with this policy.

Course Amenities

 

There will be fluid stations with restrooms on the course along with a Science in Sport (SiS) Gel Zone. Runners are encouraged to bring their own water bottles, and hydration belts will be permitted. Any hydration pack worn over the shoulder will not be permitted.

Bag Check

 

Bag check will be available beginning at 6:30 am at  (located at Staten Island St. George Ferry Terminal by Richmond Terrace between Wall Street and Schuyler Street).

Planning to check a bag on race morning? While we will continue to have clear plastic bags available at number pickup, we encourage you to use your own clear reusable plastic bag, no larger than 17" wide x 20" high x 7" deep, with the tag affixed.

NYRR is not responsible for lost, damaged, or stolen bags or items from bags checked at NYRR bag check.

Wave Starts

 

The NYRR Staten Island Half will start in two waves, the first (corrals AA-F) at 8:00 a.m. and the second (corrals G-L) at 8:30 a.m. You will receive your wave and corral assignment at number pickup.

Live, unofficial results will be available in the NYRR Racing App and at liveresults.nyrr.org during the event.

After the conclusion of the event, official results will be posted on results.nyrr.org.

Awards will be presented on site to the top-three finishers in the overall men, women, and non-binary divisions. Runners who place in the top-three of their age group will be able to claim an award in the days following the race by filling out our Age-Group Awards Claim Form.

Prize Money

 

All prize money amounts equal for men, women, and non-binary categories. To be eligible for prize money and time bonuses, including Top Staten Island Finisher, a runner must have been a NYRR member since at least July 8, 2023, including the date of the race, and must complete the course in 1 hour 30 minutes or less. All prize money divisions determined by Gun Time. Eligibility requirements for all prize money and bonuses are available here.

Top Staten Island Finisher

The top man, woman, and non-binary finisher from Staten Island will be awarded $500. Residency is determined by zip code at the time of registration. Cumulative with overall prize money, if applicable.

 

Time Bonuses

A $100 time bonus is available for the men's, women's and/or non-binary's race winners who break the existing event record, based on Gun Time. The bonus is available to the race winner only. An athlete must break, not tie, the record to earn the bonus.

Transportation

 
  • We encourage participants to take public transit to and from the race. Use the MTA's Planned Service Changes schedule to plan your race-day transportation.
  • For participants looking to drive to the event, public parking is available near the start and finish.

NYRR Pace Team

 

The NYRR Pace Team members are some of the most experienced runners in New York City and the most knowledgeable runners on the course. They have an average success rate of 96.5% of hitting their target finish time. Pacers will be on hand to guide participants toward specific goal times over the 13.1 miles. Pace Team members will lead groups at various paces between 6:51 per mile and 11:26 per mile (between a 1:30 finish and a 2:30 finish).

If you choose to run with a pace group, you can look for the NYRR Pace Team members in the start corrals wearing their blue-and-white-striped NYRR Pace Team singlets. Each Team member will carry signs that correspond with their respective finish times and paces. There is no fee to run with the pace team or to sign up.

4 Out of 6 Program

 

The  4 Out of 6 program allows NYRR members who meet the eligibility requirements to gain guaranteed entry to the United Airlines NYC Half.


Eligibility for entry to the 2024 United Airlines NYC Half will be guaranteed for NYRR members who complete four qualifying events in 2023 and have an active membership by the last qualifying event of the 2023 4 Out of 6 program (the NYRR Staten Island Half in October).

Cancellation and Deferrals

 

If NYRR cancels an offering on the direction of local, city, or state authorities, participants will be informed as soon as possible, including communication of participant resolution options. Events will not be rescheduled.
