ADVISORY: New Balance 5th Avenue Mile to Feature World’s Top Athletes Along With 6,000 Runners Across 23 Different Heats on Sunday, September 10

WHAT:
 

The 2017 New Balance 5th Avenue Mile will be the 37th running of the world’s largest and longest running road mile race, stretching 20 blocks down Manhattan’s most famous thoroughfare. More than 6,000 finishers are expected across 23 races, including specialty heats such as the Youth Wheelchair Invitational, George Sheehan Memorial Mile for seniors, the Media Mile, the NYPD/FDNY Mile and the New Balance 5 Borough Mile, which will bring together teams of 20 runners from each of New York City’s five boroughs in a race to prove which borough is the fastest.

In partnership with NYRR and USA Track & Field, NBC Sports Group will broadcast the event on NBC at 1:30 p.m. ET The broadcast will feature live coverage of the professional athlete races, as well as a recap of the day’s earlier heats.

 

PRESS INFO:

Media Credentials: Please email Stuart Lieberman (slieberman@nyrr.org) to request a media credential. Media credentials can be picked up at the media check-in tent beginning at 8:00 a.m. on race day. The media check-in tent will be located on the west side of Fifth Avenue at 60th Street.

 

Press Truck: Seating on the press truck is limited and will be available for the professional races and select races upon request. The truck will load just prior to the races near the Finish Line on the east side of Fifth Avenue at 60th Street. Please notify an NYRR Media Representative on-site to request a seat.

 

Professional Athlete Availability: Athletes will be available for interviews post-race in the Finish Line Mixed Zone. The field will include 29 runners who competed in the 2017 IAAF World Championships, including four medalists. The race will feature both of the event’s defending champions, Jenny Simpson and Eric Jenkins, along with world champion steeplechaser Emma Coburn and three-time 5th Avenue Mile champion Nick Willis.
