Press Releases

Salt Lake City, UT (March 10, 2016) – Ragnar, the premier series of overnight road and trail running relay adventures in the United States, has officially launched its newest East Coast trail race, Ragnar Trail Wawayanda Lake in association with New York Road Runners (NYRR), the world’s premier community running organization, taking place September 30 and October 1, 2016.

Ragnar Trail Relay teams consist of four or eight runners who complete a total of 120-ish miles over two days and one night. Each runner completes three different trail loops of varying difficulty.

“As the world leader in overnight running relays we can’t imagine partnering with a better organization than NYRR who sets the standard for running worldwide,” said Chris Infurchia, CEO of Ragnar. “Ragnar’s innovative overnight trail running relays is a perfect fit for NYRR’s enthusiast looking for a new challenge they conquer with their friends, family or colleagues.”

Both beautiful and challenging, Ragnar Trail Wawayanda Lake is a trail runner's dream. Crossing portions of the Appalachian Trail system with its dense wood forests, clear streams and inspiring views of Wawayanda Lake will leave runners breathless. When not on the trail, teammates cheer on their runners, curl up under a bed of stars, enjoy campfires with s’mores and movies, and make new friends at Ragnar Village. They will also be able to learn more about and test the latest outdoor products from partners such as Salomon, REI, Smartwool, NATHAN Sports, Klean Kanteen and Superfeet.

The two organizations have come together to include this 120-mile overnight trail running relay as a TCS New York City Marathon qualifying race for runners, and will offer NYRR members a discounted team registration price.

“We are thrilled to collaborate with Ragnar for the first-ever Ragnar Trail Wawayanda Lake in association with New York Road Runners,” said Peter Ciaccia, president of events for New York Road Runners and the race director of the TCS New York City Marathon. “NYRR’s mission is to help and inspire people through running, and part of that means providing our running community with new challenges that will keep moving them, and our events, forward. This unique trail relay offers runners of all ranks a different type of opportunity to celebrate their health and fitness, build community, and have a whole lot of fun with their friends on a weekend trail racing adventure.”

Donating more than $1 million annually to communities its courses run through, Ragnar will be working with many local organizations to aid their fundraising and volunteer efforts race weekend, including NYRR’s Team for Kids, the organization’s charity running program that raises money for NYRR’s free year-round youth running programs.
