NYRR Washington Heights Salsa, Blues, and Shamrocks 5K is a family-friendly race event in upper Manhattan. On a hilly course that circles Fort Tryon Park and the historic Cloisters, runners are serenaded by musical groups playing everything from salsa, blues, and Irish folk music, to gospel, merengue, and jazz. The 2016 United Airlines NYC Half is part of NYRR’s Five-Borough Series. The race will feature a talented American and international professional athlete field full of Olympic and Paralympic hopefuls and qualifiers, along with charity runners and recreational runners. An estimated 20,000 finishers and 1,500 volunteers are expected for the event. The race boasts an on-street experience like no other – from the rolling hills of Central Park, up to Harlem, down through Times Square, and along the Hudson River waterfront to the finish in lower Manhattan. The second edition of the NYRR Times Square Kids’ run will be a 1500-meter out-and-back road race on Seventh Avenue for children ages 7 to 18 that starts and ends in Times Square. It will feature 1,000 students – many from NYRR’s free youth running programs – including young wheelchair racers for the first time.
