2015 United Airlines NYC Half Brings Together Sponsors and Partners an Unparalleled Race Experience

Press Releases

New York, March 13, 2015 – Sponsors and partners of the 2015 United Airlines NYC Half, set for this Sunday, March 15, will come together to create an interactive lineup of activities and promotions to enhance the 13.1-mile race through Manhattan and event experience for runners, volunteers, and fans.

“The 10th annual running of this event, with United Airlines in its inaugural year as title sponsor and such a passionate group of partners that includes NYRR’s Premier Partner, TCS, and Foundation Partner, Airbnb, and the Hospital for Special Surgery, will be a race experience to remember” said John Gassner, Vice President, Business Development and Strategic Partnerships of New York Road Runners. “We are excited for all of our sponsor activities during race-week and on race day that allow us to positively engage with our running community both on and off the course.”

United Airlines, the New York area's largest airline, is the new title sponsor of the United Airlines NYC Half. As an NYRR Foundation Partner, United Airlines is the official airline of the TCS New York City Marathon and the United Airlines NYC Half. United also serves as the official airline and a supporting sponsor of the other NYRR Five-Borough series events—the Airbnb Brooklyn Half, Queens 10K, Bronx 10-Mile, and the Staten Island Half.

United Airlines will host several race-week activations at the 2015 United Airlines NYC Half Expo, which includes a new location this year at Skylight at Moynihan Station and a sold-out floor of vendors. Activations include a unique walkthrough of the race course at the United Airlines booth. Here, a map of the course will be brought to life in a vast, visual way. On a map wall, runners will be able to view key locations on the course and learn insider knowledge about the race route before they “fly through the streets” of Manhattan on race day. Runners will be able to pick up a free headband at this booth and pose for photos in front of life size (six foot) medal.

On race day, runners will be greeted by volunteers in United Airlines Grounds crew gear who will be at the start and finish to direct runners at “takeoff” and “landing.”

Tata Consultancy Services, one of the world's leading IT services and consulting firms, is the Premier Partner of NYRR, the title sponsor of the TCS New York City Marathon, and Official Youth and Community Service Partner of NYRR.

TCS returns as the Mobile App developer for the United Airlines NYC Half. The 2015 United Airlines NYC Half Mobile App Powered by Tata Consultancy Services features live tracking of up to 10 runners, a course map, and several new features for 2015: live professional athlete results, start and finish-area detail screens, and an exciting United Airlines sweepstakes. The free app is available on all iPhone and Android devices, at the iTunes App Store and Google Play Store.

The TCS Digital Hub will provide runners with charging stations and free Wifi with the download of the United Airlines NYC Half app. Additionally, runners can visit the NYRR Lounge to learn more about the course from NYRR’s coaching staff. Here, the coaching staff will take runners through the new digital course map Powered by TCS, where they can see highlights along the course and elevation changes. Runners can also stop by the pace team desk within the Lounge to pick up a complimentary Pace Band Powered by TCS.

Airbnb, a Foundation Partner of NYRR, proudly supports NYRR's year-round events and initiatives. Airbnb is committed to giving unique access to neighborhoods throughout NYC's five boroughs by connecting guests from all over the world with local hosts who act as local ambassadors.

At the 2015 United Airlines NYC Half, Airbnb will greet runners with special signage at 42nd Street and the West Side Highway, signaling the turnaround location and waterfront stretch along the Hudson River.

The Hospital for Special Surgery (HSS), an NYRR strategic partner, will host the Runner Recovery Zone in the post-finish area. Sports Rehab and Performance therapists will be available to help jump-start runner recovery, offering runners tips, consultations, and stretch-outs. HSS has been hosting an “Ask the Expert” weekly Q&A chat for runners in the lead-up to the 2015 United Airlines NYC Half on the NYRR Facebook page. HSS is also the Presenting Partner of the United Airlines NYC Half Recovery Bag provided to all finishers.

WABC-TV is NYRR’s broadcast partner for the 2015 United Airlines NYC Half.
