Midway through Sunday’s NYRR Gridiron 4M / Longest Football Throw, runners had the opportunity to vote with their feet: By veering either left (Los Angeles) or right (New England) they could forecast the winner of the 2019 big game at our prediction counter.
Runners, the results are in: By a margin of 65% to 35%, you predicted Los Angeles as the winner.
Writing this report several hours before kickoff, we can’t yet evaluate your prognosticating capabilities. But the prediction counter has been a feature of the NYRR Gridiron 4M for a few years, so we’re able to look back at your predictions at the last seven editions of the race, and compare them to the outcomes.
You can see that your record is, ahem, less than impressive: You’ve correctly named the winner only three out of seven times. [Ed’s note: make that three out of eight times as our runners incorrectly predicted Los Angeles.] Now, NYRR doesn’t play favorites, not in football or any other sport. So it’s up to you! Hopefully runners broke out the party snacks, settled in on the sofa, and rooted for the team of your choice!
Breaking the finish tape at the race were Harbert Okuti of Westchester Track Club (19:21) and Rolanda Bell (22:24). Before the race Paul Presvelis and Audrey Benmoha threw for 52 yards and 34 yards, respectively, to win the Longest Football Throw.
