Un cuarto de milla con Queens Distance Runners
Each week, "A Quarter-Mile with..." will feature a club captain/runner as NYRR spotlights our club runners. As the NYRR Queens 10K is only a few short days away, we chatted with the Queens Distance Runners for this installment.
Name: Christine Nasol
Club: Queens Distance Runners
Fartlek or Tempo? Fartlek! You haven't lived until you've done frog-leaps in the middle of a fartlek!
Favorite NYRR Race? The Queens 10K, of course! The Pride Run is also near and dear to my heart—where else can you run dressed up like a Unicorn!
Favorite Race Distance? I really love the 10K and half-marathon distances.
Favorite Distance to Run? Running 7–8 miles feels so good, especially when in Flushing Meadows Corona Park.
Running Hero? Des Linden, because she's a mini-me, like me!
Post-Race Meal? A Shake Shack Burger with fries and a strawberry shake!
Cold-Weather Running or Warm-Weather Running? Cold-weather running for sure...then I can finally breathe!
Treadmills: Yay or Nay? Can I say "Meh?" I truly do prefer outdoor running, since starting Group Training with NYRR.
Where’s the Most Exotic Place You’ve Run? I recently completed the Big Sur Marathon in California (my home state!) and was blown away by the beauty of the course. It was definitely one of my biggest challenges, but I am so thrilled that I finished!
Race-Day Inspiration Quote:
"You miss 100% of the shots you don’t take.”
— Wayne Gretzky
Toughest Race Course, in your opinion? BIG SUR, hands down!
Song that Makes You Want to Go Faster? “Get Your Freak On” by Missy Elliot
You Can Run Alongside ANY Three People in the World: Who Are They? Des Linden of course, Jonathan Van Ness so we could share a laugh, and Alicia Keys so we can run at conversational singing pace!
What’s the best account you follow on Instagram (...other than NYRR, obviously)?
@queensdistance
@horseandduckphoto
Describe your club in five words or less? Scream Station, Teamwork, Friendship, and Family.
