La 25.ª carrera anual trae marcas personales y sonrisas en un fin de semana ajetreado de carreras
Marathon season may be over, but Central Park was a hive of activity all weekend as it hosted three different NYRR races.
On Saturday, ultra runners warmed up the roads at the NYRR 60K (our race report will be live on Monday). And on Sunday, more than 5,000 runners took part in the 25th annual Race to Deliver 4M, as well as the accompanying Rising New York Road Runners event.
The race helps support the organization God’s Love We Deliver, which provides nutritious meals to people in the New York City metropolitan area who are living with severe illness. God’s Love now cooks and delivers 1.8 million meals each year to more than 7,000 people who are too sick to shop or cook for themselves.
On a chilly Sunday morning, Ned Booth of North Brooklyn Runners held off Ryan Prout of Dashing Whippets in a hotly contested duel, with Booth breaking the tape in 20:23. Victoria Kingham of CPTC was the first woman over the line with a time of 22:40.
And despite the drop in temperatures as winter arrives early in New York City, runners and volunteers came out in strong numbers as they looked to complete their 9+1 program to claim guaranteed entry to the 2019 TCS New York City Marathon.
When the adult race finished, kids from the age of 2 to 10 got the chance to show their speed in the RYNRR event at Race to Deliver.
Race to Deliver was part of a packed line-up of weekend running events. Up in the Bronx, Van Cortlandt Park staged the NYRR Fred Lebow Cross Country Championships (5K) and Rising New York Road Runners at the Fred Lebow Cross Country Championships, as well as the aforementioned NYRR 60K on Saturday.
NYRR’s next scheduled race is the Jingle Bell Jog on Saturday, December 1 in Brooklyn’s Prospect Park, but those looking to get some miles in with their family and friends during the holiday break can sign up for the Virtual Turkey Trot 5K.
