New York, September 26, 2024 New York Road Runners (NYRR), the nonprofit that produces the TCS New York City Marathon and 60 additional adult and youth races annually, will honor running trailblazer Kathrine Switzer and WABC’s Art Moore with its Legacy Award at its NYRR Night of Champions, Friday, November 1.

The NYRR Night of Champions supports New York Road Runners’ commitment to transforming the health and well-being of New York City communities through free and inclusive running experiences, empowering all to achieve their potential. The benefit will take place two days before the 2024 TCS New York City Marathon – the BEST DAY in New York City – which is one of the most inclusive and accessible sporting events in the world with more than 50,000 runners and two million spectators.

“We are excited to honor Kathrine and Art’s legacies at our annual NYRR Night of Champions,” said Rob Simmelkjaer, CEO, New York Road Runners. “Kathrine is a trailblazer for women in sports and Art has helped showcase the best day of the year in New York City to viewers not just in our city, but across the nation.”

Switzer is being honored for the 50th anniversary of her groundbreaking New York City Marathon victory on September 29, 1974, solidifying her as a long-time activist for women in the sport of running. Switzer led the effort to include the women’s marathon in the Olympics, and is also an author, commentator, member of the NYRR Hall of Fame, and Board Chair of the nonprofit 261 Fearless. She played an integral role in starting the New York Mini 10K, the world’s original women-only road race.

Moore is being celebrated for championing the coverage of the TCS New York City Marathon on WABC’s platforms since 2013. His contributions have significantly enhanced the Marathon’s reputation as an iconic event in NYC. Currently, Moore serves as the Vice President of Programming at WABC-TV in New York and has served as the Executive-in-Charge of Production for "Live with Kelly and Mark" for the last 36 seasons. Moore will retire this month after 53 years with WABC.
