New York, November 3, 2019 – To celebrate the 50th anniversary of the TCS New York City Marathon on Sunday, November 1, 2020, the New York Road Runners (NYRR) today will launch registration for a special edition drawing, “50 for the 50th.” Fifty runners will be selected as the first runners accepted into next year’s milestone event. The TCS New York City Marathon is one of the city’s most anticipated and iconic annual sporting events, attracting fans and runners of all ages and abilities from around the world. This early drawing begins on race day, November 3 and will remain open for 50 hours.

“The ’50 for the 50th’ drawing serves as a kick-off for a year-long celebration to honor our history and embrace the running community in New York City and around the world,” said Michael Capiraso, president and CEO of New York Road Runners. “We are thrilled to welcome our first fifty runners as part of this historic event.”

Registration will be open from 6:00 a.m. E.T. on November 3 and closes at 8:00 a.m. E.T. on November 5.  The special edition drawing will be selected later in the day on November 5.  Runners will be notified by email if they received entrance. All non-accepted entrants will automatically be enrolled in the non-guaranteed entry drawing in late February 2020.  The application for non-guaranteed and guaranteed entry applications will open on January 30, 2020.

The 2020 TCS New York City Marathon field will be made up of both guaranteed and non-guaranteed entrants. All runners with guaranteed entry should not apply for this special registration drawing, as they will be eligible to claim their entry when the general application opens on January 30.
