2017 NYRR Queens 10K to Feature Thousands of Runners on lunes, 17 de junio, in Flushing Meadows Corona Park

Comunicados de prensa

New York, June 13, 2017 – The NYRR Queens 10K, the third race in New York Road Runners’ signature Five-Borough Series, will return to Flushing Meadows Corona Park on Saturday, June 17, in a celebration of the borough that brought the World’s Fair to New York City. An estimated 11,000 runners will take part in this year’s event, including 200 youth runners who will run the Kids’ Races at the NYRR Queens 10K.

“The NYRR Queens 10K is an event for all—from the thousands of adults participating to the next generation of runners joining in the free Kids’ Races at the NYRR Queens 10K,” said Michael Capiraso, president and CEO of New York Road Runners. “This year, 750 runners will race the NYRR Queens 10K while raising money on behalf of NYRR’s Team for Kids. The money they raise supports free youth running programs across the country to help kids become active adults. In Queens, NYRR’s free youth running programs support more than 34,000 students across 180 schools and community sites.”

This celebration of running in Queens will feature a fun-filled day of running for all with entertainment along the NYRR Queens 10K course and in the post-race festival. Children ages 2 to 12 can participate in the free Kids’ Races at the NYRR Queens 10K through race heats at varying distances, starting at the iconic Pool of Industry.

“As one of NYRR’s designated Club Points races, the 2017 NYRR Queens 10K is the perfect kickoff to the summer racing season. The fast, flat course, set in beautiful Flushing Meadows Corona Park, offers a great backdrop for our competitive running teams and the thousands of other participants as they race toward the finish line near the Unisphere, the iconic symbol from the 1964 World’s Fair,” said Peter Ciaccia, president of events for New York Road Runners and race director of the TCS New York City Marathon. “We’re proud to work in partnership with our city agencies and the Parks department to put on this event in celebration of New York City’s second-largest borough and home to many of the city’s greatest sporting events.”

NYRR organizes and supports events and community programming in Queens throughout the year for people of all ages—from youth to seniors—designed to get them moving toward a healthier lifestyle. This includes free NYRR Open Runs in Astoria, Cunningham, and Flushing Meadows Corona Parks, free youth running programs at Queens schools and community centers, and free NYRR Striders walking sessions for seniors in parks and neighborhood facilities.
