New York Road Runners Round-Up: September Races and Events

NYRR will be hosting a variety of events this month, with opportunities to start the Fall season on the right foot. Contact information for each event is below and registration information is available on nyrr.org. Please reach out to us with any questions and information about coverage.

NYRR 5th Avenue Mile

On race day, watch runners of all ages and abilities race down a famed mile stretch of Manhattan. The NYRR 5th Avenue Mile attracts some of the world’s top professional athletes and also includes specialty heats such as the NYPD/FDNY Mile, the George Sheehan Memorial Mile for runners ages 60 and over, a children’s race for youth ages 8-14, and the fifth annual Media Mile.

Thousands of excited runners will flock to Central Park as they prepare for November’s 45th running of TCS New York City Marathon which will be only seven weeks away on Sunday, November 1. The Tune-Up in Central Park provides 18 miles of motivation and camaraderie to carry runners through the challenging preparation phase.

Runners will celebrate the cross country season with the NYRR Kurt Steiner Cross Country race in historic Van Cortlandt Park in the Bronx. This event is perfect for those who love the trails and classic feel of a cross country course. The NYRR Youth Running Series will also host a 1-mile race at 10:30 a.m., before the 5K race for children ages 7-18.

The 2015 Bronx 10-Mile is a part of NYRR’s Five-Borough Series, celebrating the unique culture and characteristics of the flavorful Bronx borough. Thousands of runners will participate and enjoy the sights and sounds of different Bronx neighborhoods.

New this year, in addition to the Bronx 10-Mile, will be the NYRR Bronx 5K! Beginning at 7:30 a.m., runners will complete a 3.1-mile course through the Bronx Borough—a perfect opportunity for runners looking to complete slightly less mileage, but still partake in all of the fun.
