NYRR will be hosting events for all ages and abilities this month, including the Queens 10K, part of the NYRR Five-Borough Series. Many events are festive and fun for the whole family, with kids’ races, pre- and post-race entertainment, and more. National Running Day 2015

Five Boroughs, New York City

 

NYRR celebrated National Running Day with activities across the five boroughs, including group runs and walks, water stations in parks, giveaways, and their largest youth running event. Nearly 2,000 Mighty Milers from NYC public schools took over Icahn Stadium on Randall’s Island in a year-end celebration of running. This June, NYRR turns 57 years old. To celebrate the history of NYRR participants donned old-school running gear and took a walk—no, a run—down Memory Lane at the NYRR Retro 4-miler. This throwback-themed race took place in Central Park—the setting of so many great moments. Photos from the race can be found here.

Join NYRR and Oakley for the Oakley New York Mini 10K on June 13. It’s the world’s original women-only road race, and it empowers women of all ages and fitness levels to be active and to look and feel great on the run. There are 7 Olympians and 11 countries represented in the professional athlete field this year. Headlining the international field is 2014 TCS New York City Marathon champion is Mary Keitany, with Blake Russell headlining the American field. The third race in the 2015 NYRR Five-Borough Series brings runners to Flushing Meadows Corona Park for a flat, fast 10K with an early-summer date. This event is a good training for runners to prepare for the TCS New York City Marathon or any marathon in fall this year. Flushing Meadows Corona Park is easily reached by public transportation, and it's a great place to spend the day. Please visit the event page here for more information.

On June 27, Join more than 5,000 runners at the 34th Front Runners New York LGBT Pride Run to show their pride. This is five-mile run collaboration between NYRR and Front Runners New York, a competitive and social club for LGBT runners, multisport athletes, and their allies. This year, a portion of the proceeds benefits Immigration Equality, an organization which through education, outreach, and advocacy works to end discrimination in U.S. immigration law and obtain asylum. Achilles Hope & Possibility brings together athletes with disabilities and able-bodied athletes. This event is a celebration of running with a very special flavor.
