Mohammed Ahmed Canada

Three-time Olympian Mohammed Ahmed, Canada’s most successful long-distance runner, will be making his road racing debut at the United Airlines NYC Half. He became the first Canadian to medal in the 5,000 meters at both the World Championships (bronze in 2019) and the Olympics (silver in 2021). His podium finish in the former marked Canada’s first World Championships medal in a long-distance track event.

Ahmed is also a two-time silver medalist at the Commonwealth Games in the 5,000 and 10,000 meters and was the 2015 Pan American champion in the 10,000 meters.

Ahmed grew up in Somalia before moving to Kenya and then finally Canada at the age of 11. He started running track at 13 after seeing his brothers take up the sport. He went on to attend the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where he was a seven-time All-American.
