Jetze Plat

Jetze Plat Netherlands

Jetze Plat is a Paralympic champion in both cycling and triathlon, and in 2022 switched to road racing when he made his marathon debut at the London Marathon, finishing fifth. He went on to record two consecutive third-place finishes at the TCS New York City Marathon and a victory at the 2023 United Airlines NYC Half.

At the Tokyo Paralympics in 2021, Plat won three gold medals in two different sports. He started the Games by defending his triathlon title, and then three days later won the time trial in road cycling. The day after that, he secured gold in cycling road race. He was also the flagbearer for the Netherlands in the Opening Ceremony.

Five years prior at the Paralympics in Rio, Plat won gold in paratriathlon and bronze in the cycling road race. Between the two Games he became the first Paralympic athlete to finish in the top 30 overall in the world’s most famous Ironman in Hawaii and was nominated for a Laureus Award.

Plat was born with a shorter left upper leg and no ligaments in his left knee. In 2008, he had his lower right leg amputated. He took up sports after learning how to handcycle as a way to get to school growing up. He owns a degree in mechanical engineering and has previously worked on repairing wheelchairs and handcycles.
