Conner Mantz
Conner Mantz earned himself a spot at the Paris 2024 Games by winning the U.S. Olympic Marathon Trials in Orlando in February. He went on to become the top American finisher in Paris, finishing in eighth place overall in 2:08:12 as more than 40 members of his family gathered at the finish area to cheer him on.
Mantz was the top American finisher at the Chicago Marathon in both 2023 and 2022; he was seventh overall in 2022 in his debut in the distance and took sixth place overall in 2023 to meet the Olympic qualifying time and clock the fifth-fastest marathon ever by an American. He was 11th at the 2023 Boston Marathon.
In addition to his Olympic Trials victory, Mantz has two other national titles to his name, having won the 2021 USATF Half Marathon Championships and 2022 USATF 20K Championships. He competed in the U.S. Olympic Trials on the track in both 2024 and 2020.
Mantz ran for BYU, where he won back-to-back NCAA Division I cross country titles and 2020 and 2021, becoming the first American to win the event since Galen Rupp did so in 2008.
Between high school and college, Mantz took a break from competitive running to go on a mission to Ghana for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He was limited to 30 minutes of exercise a day and spent much of his time teaching and studying.
Mantz is a former college teammate and current training partner of fellow TCS New York City Marathon athlete Clayton Young, who finished one place behind him at both the 2024 U.S. Olympic Marathon Trials and Olympic Games.
