Martin made his NYRR podium debut when he took third in the 2017 Queens 10K, crossing the line in 31:01. He continued his winning ways later in the year, registering a second place finish at the NYRR Ted Corbitt 15K in 47:54. A veteran of 21 NYRR races, he’s competed in the last two TCS New York City Marathons placing 14^th (2:19:34) in 2016 and 15^th (2:22:36) in 2017.

His 26.2 mile career began at the 2013 Fukuoka Marathon, grabbing 17^th place in 2:18:28.  A year later, he qualified for the 2016 U.S. Olympic Marathon Team Trials with a personal-best 2:16:28 at the California International Marathon before breaking that personal best with a 2:15:30 finish at Grandma’s Marathon the following year. Martin ran a 2:20:41 at February’s Trials to finish 20^th – 10 spots higher than his goal.

A Smithtown, NY native, Martin got his first exposure to New York Road Runners when he was a freshman in High School. He received a handout from New York Road Runners after crossing the finish line among the top 10 cross-country competitors in the Manhattan Invite. Later, he was invited to run the New York City Marathon High School Invitational, a 2.5-mile race in Central Park that took place the day of the New York City Marathon and ended at the marathon’s finish line. Martin went on to lead Columbia University to an Ivy League conference title in cross country in 2009, winning a pair of All-Northeast Region honors along the way.
