Saturday, August 8, was a great day in Central Park. The NYRR Team Championships, an annual contest among hundreds of runners representing scores of local teams, is an event where athletes show their pure love of the sport. Thanks to separate women’s and men’s races, crowds of cheering spectators line the course. Afterward, many clubs take group photos and enjoy festive picnics. Go, teams! |

The starting horn sent a field of 499 women out to do their teams proud.

Salome Kosgei of the Westchester Track Club (WTC) caught Abbi Antablin of the New York Athletic Club (NYAC) near the two-mile mark…

…and then took control at three miles.
|
Kosgei won the race in 27:28, 32 seconds ahead of the next finisher.
|
Antablin held onto the second spot and finished in 28-flat to lead her victorious NYAC team.
|
The early leader, Muliye Gurmu of West Side Runners (WSX), held onto the final podium spot with a 28:12 performance.

NYAC’s Catha Mullen finished strong in 28:14 for fourth place.
|
Katarina Janosikova took fifth place in 28:25, leading her Running Divas New York (RDNY) team to a second-place finish.
|
NYAC’s third scorer was Megan Guiney, sixth overall in 28:37.
|
Caroline Bierbaum (28:51) was seventh in the race and fourth among NYAC runners.
|
Rebecca Yau was eighth overall in 29:04 and led Central Park Track Club (CPTC) to a third-place finish.

Jamie Sutherland rounded off the NYAC team scoring with her ninth-place finish in 29:24.

Catherine Robbie of NYAC gutted it out to complete the top 10 in a time of 29:25.
|
Kelly Chin was RDNY’s second finisher in a time of 29:28, good for 11th overall.
|
Jane Maxwell (29:32) was NYAC’s seventh woman over the line—and 12th in the race!
|
CPTC’s Lauren Esposito ran 29:44 to take 13th place.
|
First among masters (age 40+) runners was Lilian Kroner in a time of 29:59, which placed her 15th overall.
|
Beth Moras of RRSP was second in the 50+ division in a time of 33:22.
|
Sylvie Kimché ran 37:10 to win the 60+ division. It was her 23rd consecutive NYRR age-group victory!

Marie Killeen of the Rockland Road Runners ran 43:50 to win the 70+ division—by more than 13 minutes.
|
Paige Rosenberg ran 37:04 for Team for Kids.

Amy Rogers of the Hellgate Road Runners cruised under the 40-minute barrier with her 39:45.
|
Dina Dayrit of WS ran 45:28—faster than 10-minute miles.
|
Ruth Gursky of Front Runners New York ran 13 minutes per (enjoyable) mile.

Jun Matsuyoshi of the Mercury Masters ran 50:41, good for 12th in the 60-64 division.

Robin Russell of the Greater New York Racing Team finished in 47:02.
|
Aileen McCrillis ran 43:53 and expressed nonverbal approval of the experience.

Sally Chen of Powered by Dim Sum ran 53:37. At 10:07 per mile, that’s 521 calories worth of dim sum.
