| This race, held in Van Cortlandt Park, pays tribute to one of NYRR’s founding members, Kurt Steiner, who died in 1991. Steiner was a competitive runner and race walker who served as an NYRR race announcer for many years. Born in Austria, he was a member of the French Foreign Legion and later a U.S. Army lieutenant. Cold, wet weather for the race this year didn’t dampen the enthusiasm the hundreds of finishers. |
