NYRR Half-Marathon Grand Prix Presented by Continental Airlines: Bronx

The second race in the 2009 Grand Prix enjoyed unseasonably mild weather—the temperature was 56 degrees at the start, and early-morning clouds gave way to full sunshine. Nearly 3,700 runners completed a course that started and finished on Goulden Avenue and included out-and-back stretches on Grand Concourse and the Mosholu Parkway.

These two entrants stood ready to put their footprints on New York City’s northernmost borough.


A pre-race stretch was important, even on a relatively mild winter day.

Runners sprang from the starting line…


…but kept their pace in check, knowing they had 13.1 miles to go.


One fan expressed her patriotism as thousands of runners streamed by.

Daniel Campos fronted a pack of performance-focused runners; he finished in 1:19:42.

Staying in a pack helped runners hold the pace and get protection from the wind.


Peter Templer and Kathryn Loosemore, both of Port Chester, finished together in 2:13.


These spectators cheered on many entrants while waiting for their special runner.


Chunhua Ou of Manhattan finished in 2:19:11.


Sheryl McCallum of the Bronx was all smiles en route to her 2:20:14 finish.


Teklu Tefera Deneke won the men’s race easily in 1:08:25—that’s 5:13 per mile!


Lauren Uhler posted her first NYRR race win in a time of 1:23:18.


Front Runners New York members relaxed and celebrated a race well run.


Crunching and munching post-race, these runners savored their morning in the Bronx.
