What a race! Festus Langat (left) won a hard-fought victory in 18:21, an event record. Dagne Alemu (center) was second, and Wegayehu Tefera (right) took third; both were timed in 18:22.


Worku Beyi of the Westchester Track Club (WTC) placed fourth in 18:34; he was the first local team member across the line.


Making it look easy at 4:35-per-mile pace, the lead pack rolls through Central Park.

Art Gunther, 36, of Upper Nyack ran 19:39 to place eighth overall and first in his age group.

With only four miles to show what they’re made of, the chasing runners set their sights on the lead pack.

Nike Central Park Track Club’s (CPTC) Carl Dambkowski and Warren Street’s Brian Dalpiaz finished ninth (19:39) and 10th (19:41) respectively.

Orest Babyak, 40, of the Polish Runners Club won his age group and was 22nd overall in 20:42.

The New York Athletic Club’s (NYAC) Chris Ellis-Ferrara ran 5:11-per-mile pace; he finished 24th in 20:45.

Ted Towle of Urban Athletics (UATH) was 25th overall in 20:48.


Ian Seeney represented the Hoboken Harriers with his top-50 finish in 21:36.

After running in a tight pack of four women until the final half-mile, Aziza Aliyu of WTC sprinted to the victory in 21:46, three seconds ahead of runner-up Aileen Conlon of CPTC.

Eighteen-year-old Firehiwot Tesfaye of WSX (right) and Lesley Higgins of NYAC ended up third and fourth in 21:49 and 21:54, respectively.


Atalelech Ketema of WTC toughed it out for a fifth-place finish in 22:11.

Kate Irvin, a 1500-meter specialist, was the third scorer on CPTC’s winning open-division team, and seventh overall, in 22:41.


Lauren Gustafson of CPTC ran 22:47 to take eighth place. She finished second at the New York Colon Cancer Challenge 15K on March 9.


NYAC’s Celene Menschel was her team’s fourth scorer with her 21st-place 24:22.


Michelle Peltier of the Greater New York Racing Team ran 24:44, good for 29th place. Just one week earlier she placed sixth at the More Magazine Half-Marathon.

Shebna Olsen, 37, of WTC took fifth in her age group with a time of 25:25, which put her 34th overall.

Gayle Edgerton, 43, of WS was third in the 40-44 division in 26:51 and 50th overall.


Placing 99th among the race’s 2,862 female finishers was Susan Berotti, 29, of UATH, in a time of 28:47.
