New York Junior League Mother’s Day 10M (women only) / 4M (co-ed) / Kids Race

These children make mom proud! Kids races for ages 2-12 were staged after the 4-mile and 10-mile races.


What a great occasion to get together in Central Park and celebrate fitness!


Members of the New York Junior League line the course to cheer on every runner.


And they’re off…the co-ed 4-mile race begins. NYRR races now feature seeded corrals for a smooth start.


A total of more than 4,500 people finished the two races, held on a cool, sunny morning.

Keeping in step with the adults, these youngsters make four miles look easy with perfect form and cool shades.


Lynn Bradley crossed the line in 28:54, two seconds faster than Richard Bakst.


Richard Dower III celebrates his 26:57 finish with gusto.


Jillian Mastroianni of the New York Athletic Club is the top female in the 4-mile race in 24:21.

Elmustafa McHkirate of the West Side Runners beat out teammate Jorge Real by one second to win in 20:21.

Westchester Track Club teammates Buzunesh Deba (#528) and Atalelech Ketema (#493) stretch before the women-only 10-miler. Deba won the race and Ketema was the runner up, just nine seconds back.

Sabina Francis from the Bronx finishes 10-miles in under two hours with a bright smile on her face.

New Yorker Aubree Nichols breaks 8-minute per mile pace with 1:18:53—not bad for before 10:30 a.m. on a Sunday.


Deba enjoys her first win in her second NYRR race of 2008. Victory is sweet.


Sophie Pelletier Matinelli, 37, and Clare Loughran, 42, came from CT to run and re-hydrate together in Central Park.


Mrs. New York International 2008, Lori Donaudy, a domestic violence survivor, helps raise awareness for domestic violence and child abuse at the NYJL Mother’s Day Race.

The kids races are a good time for everyone to celebrate a healthy lifestyle and the spirit of running.


These girls are learning what it means to run with friends and family, and the face paint adds to the day’s excitement.
