Susan Loken, 44, and Jody Hawkins, 41, ran side by side in the lead for 13 miles. There was one-tenth of a mile remaining, however.

Caitlin Tormey, 24, worked her way up to the two leaders and then passed them with less than a tenth of a mile left in the race.  She won by a single second in 1:20:13.

Loken, of Phoenix, AZ, had won the previous three More Magazine Marathons and set the course record of 2:45:35 in 2005. She ran the half-marathon this year as preparation for the U.S. Olympic Team Trials – Women’s Marathon on April 20. She was the runner-up in 1:20:14.

Hawkins, of Frisco, TX, has won four U.S. Championships at road and track distances and qualified for three Olympic Trials at 10,000 meters. She took third place in 1:20:16.

Fourth place went to Emmily Chelanga, 27, of the Westchester Track Club. The Kenyan native ran 1:25:03.

Heather Leiggi, 32, of Bryn Mawr, PA, took fifth in 1:25:58.

Michelle Peltier, 36, of the Greater New York Racing Team, passed at least three women in the second half of the race to finish sixth in a fine 1:26:15.

Seventh place went to Gordon Bakoulis, 47, of Moving Comfort New York, a five-time Olympic Trials qualifier with a marathon best of 2:33:01.

Diane Kenna, 43, of the New York Harriers, just finished an indoor track season. She preserved enough endurance to take eighth in 1:27:14.

The ninth spot went to Sheila Casey, 38, of the Rockland Road Runners. She ran 1:27:30.

Heather Gracie-Petty, 45, of Peapack, NJ, and The Running Company, finished 10th in 1:27:38.

The medalists: Susan Loken (second, 1:20:14) and Caitlin Tormey (first, 1:20:13) are 20 years apart in age and were one second apart today. Between them is Jody Hawkins, who with Loken won the team competition.

Stephanie Hodge, 42, of the New York Harriers, won the fifth annual More Magazine Marathon by nearly three minutes, in a time of 3:01:50.

Susie Meyers-Kennedy, 42, of Chandler, AZ, finished second, in 3:04:33. She is coached by Susan Loken, who has won the race three times and today finished second in the half-marathon.

Kelly Keeler Ramacier, 46, of St. Paul, MN, finished third in 3:04:33; she courageously battled leg cramps in the final miles.

Julie McElroy, 41, representing the Westchester Track Club, finished fourth in 3:05:58. The top five finishers all were under 3:10!

Maureen Terwilliger, 40, of Guilford, CT, was seventh in a time of 3:15:27.

Debbie Cuttitta, 41, of Bellmore, and representing Runner’s Edge, was the 11th marathoner to finish; her time was 3:28:19.

Mary Stebbins, 40, of Lexington, KY, finished 13th in a time of 3:39:07.

Patrice Kentner, 46, of Pelham, has now run this race four times! Today she finished 14th in 3:31:30.

Julie Threlkeld, 43, of Yonkers looks very comfortable on her way to a 15th-place finish in 3:32:20.

The first finisher over age 50 was Carol Farrell, 51, of Breezy Point, in 3:35:55.

Christa Koot, 40, came all the way from Chino, CA. She finished 17th in 3:37:29.
