Race Info

 

The world’s fastest milers will converge on New York’s world-famous thoroughfare this September to burn up 5,280 feet of pavement. Watch the professionals battle it out for the title after setting your own personal best.

 

Course

The race starts on Manhattan’s famed Fifth Avenue near East 80th Street, in the heart of “Museum Mile.” From there it heads one mile south on Fifth Avenue to the finish at East 60th Street.


Schedule

Entrants will be broken into heats according to the following schedule. You must run the heat corresponding to your age and gender to be eligible for awards.

Race Application
Fax and online registration will close at 11:59 p.m on Tuesday, September 16, and no credit cards will be accepted after that time.

Number Pickup /Registration
Entrants are required to pick up their numbers, scoring chips, and race souvenirs at New York Road Runners (9 East 89th Street) on:

 

• Thursday, September 18, 1:00-7:00 p.m.
• Friday, September 19, 1:00-7:00 p.m.
• Saturday, September 20, 11:30 a.m.-4:30 a.m.

 

On race day, Sunday, September 21, number pick-up is from 8:30-11:30 a.m. at the registration tent on Fifth Avenue at East 80th Street. Race day registrations will be accepted until 10:30 a.m. If you are checking in on race day, we ask that you do so at least a half-hour before your heat starts. Applications received less than 30 minutes before the heat may result in your race time not being recorded until later in the day.

 

Post-Race
Join us after your heat for refreshments and the awards ceremony. Please note, you must run in the correct heat to be eligible for awards. Awards details to come.


Participant Photography

* Members: You must bring your NYRR membership card on event day to receive your member discount; otherwise you will be charged the non-member event fee.


Race Scoring
This is a scored race that counts toward the nine races NYRR members need to qualify for guaranteed entry to the ING New York City Marathon 2009. The race will be timed using the ChampionChip® system with full results available at www.nyrr.org. You must complete the race with your chip attached to your shoe or your time will not be recorded. Start mats will remain open approximately 10 minutes after the race start, after which net times will not be recorded. Please follow the instructions in your race packet on attaching the chip to your shoe and then returning the chip following the race. Note that you will be charged $35 if you do not return the chip within 20 days.

Baggage Facilities
Free baggage facilities will be provided as a convenience. Bring an inexpensive bag in which to put your items. Pin the baggage tag that is attached to your number to your bag. Please leave your valuables at home. NYRR is not responsible for lost or stolen items.

 

Rules of Competition
All NYRR races are organized and directed under USA Track & Field rules and regulations. Entrants must also comply with Parks & Recreation and NYRR rules. Failure to do so may result in offenders being disqualified and possibly banned from NYRR events, including the ING New York City Marathon. For the safety of all participants and to satisfy insurance requirements, no headphones, skates, strollers, or animals are permitted in NYRR events. Participant numbers must be fully visible at all times.
