Runners are drawn to the challenging hills of Manhattan's Central Park for the first half-marathon of 2009. This first race of the series makes for a bracing start to the new year.

Number Pickup/Registration Info
Entrants are required to pick up their numbers, scoring chips, and race souvenirs at New York Road Runners (9 East 89th Street) on:

· Thursday, January 22, 1:00-7:00 p.m.
· Friday, January 23, 1:00-7:00 p.m.
· Saturday, January 24, 11:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m.
· Sunday, January 25, TBD

 

On race day, t-shirts (ONLY) will be distributed in Central Park near the start from 6:00 a.m. to 7:00 a.m. Shirts will not be available after the race. Number pickup/registration will not take place in Central Park.

 

Note: Participants must be at least 12 years old. PowerBar Gels will be distributed at pre-race registration ONLY.

 

Time Limit
Participants will be timed up to three hours. After that time, medical facilities and refreshments will not be available. Members who finish after three hours can receive credit toward qualifying for guaranteed entry to the ING New York City Marathon 2010 but will not have a time listed in the race results; e-mail results@nyrr.org to get credit for the race.

 

Post-Race
Awards will be given in all applicable NYRR age categories and can be collected at NYRR beginning on Tuesday, January 27. [Awards breakdown]

brightroom will be photographing all race participants. Make sure your race number is clearly visible on the front of your shirt so you can be easily identified.

Race Scoring

This is a scored race that counts toward the nine races NYRR members as of January 2009 need to be eligible for guaranteed entry to the ING New York City Marathon 2010. The race is timed using the ChampionChip® system. You must complete the race with your chip attached to your shoe or your time will not be recorded. Please follow the instructions in your race packet on attaching the chip to your shoe and then returning the chip following the race. Note that you will be charged $35 if you do not return the chip within 20 days.

Baggage Facilities

Free baggage facilities will be provided as a convenience. If you are planning to use this baggage service, bring a single, inexpensive bag and leave your valuables at home. New York Road Runners is not responsible for lost or stolen items.

Rules of Competition

All NYRR races are organized and directed under USA Track & Field rules and regulations. Entrants must also comply with City of New York, Parks & Recreation and NYRR rules. Failure to do so may result in offenders being disqualified and possibly banned from NYRR events, including the ING New York City Marathon. [Click here for rules.]
